Storyline will take on a darker tone than before.Snootles
As if it isn't dark enough already? Every patch starting with 2.1 has gotten it darker and darker.
There's no alternative, my friends:
It is the Seventh Astral Era. For less than a year has Eorzean Alliance declared it a rising time. They are the Masters of Eorzea by the will of the gods, and master of three cities by the might of their exhaustible armies. They are a dying group writhing invisibly, torn apart by internal strife and personal affairs. They are the Carrion Lords of Eorzea for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day, so that they may never truly die.
Yet even in this deathless state, the Alliance continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty armies cross the monster-infested miasma of the Land, the only route between the cities, their way lit by the Aetherytes, the crystal manifestation of Aetheric Power. Vast armies give battle in their name on uncounted fields. Greatest amongst their soldiers are the Warriors of Light, the Immortal Godlike Adventurers blessed by Hydaelyn herself. Their comrades in arms are legion: the Grand Companies and countless Free Companies, the ever vigilant Scions of the Seventh Dawn and the tech-priests of the Garlond Ironworks to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from Garleans, Beast Tribes, Ascians - and worse.
To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold thousand. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, or acquired by the Garlean Empire. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark Seventh Astral Era there is only war. There is no peace amongst the lands, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting Primals.
